1- Announcement and Distribution of the Hisham Hijjawi Award for Applied Sciences Ceremony for the year 2011

Under the Patronage of his Excellency, the Prime Minister, Dr. Own Al Khasawnah, and on his behalf attended the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research HE Dr. Rowayda Al Ma’aytah, The announcement and distribution of the Hisham Hijjawi Award for Applied Sciences Ceremony for the year 2011, was held last Monday 19th of December 2011 at Grand Hayatt Amman Hotel.

The ceremony included speeches that highlighted the importance of the scientific researches and its impact on the researchers themselves as well as on their community. Also the ceremony included announcement of the results, presentations about the winning researches and distribution of the awards.

2- Introduction of New Fields of Training at Technician Level at Hijjawi College for Engineering Technology, Yarmouk University.

A joint decision by Yarmouk University and Hijjawi Foundation was made to create a new program at HCET to qualify and graduate Technicians in technical fields related to the faculty specialization and according to market requirement and demand in partnership with the private sector.

The approvals by Yarmouk University were completed and the University Board of Trustees approved the new fields, accordingly curriculum for two specializations were submitted to the Higher Education Accreditation Commission for approval in order to start with these fields next September.

The two new fields are, Electric Power Technology Specialist & Software Development Technology Specialist. These were developed together with related Industries and relevant stakeholders, and accordingly the program will focus on preparing graduates through practical training in 2 years post secondary, with around 75 credit hours.

Under the Patronage of his Excellency, the Prime Minister, Mr. Sameer Al Refai, The announcement and distribution of the Hisham Hijjawi Award for Applied Sciences Ceremony for the year 2010, was held last Wednesday 5th of January at Hijjawi College for Engineering Technology, Yarmouk University.

The ceremony included speeches that highlighted the importance of the scientific researches and its impact on the researchers themselves as well as on their community. Also the ceremony included announcement of the results, presentations about the winning researches and distribution of the awards.

4- The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Visit Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology – Nablus

On November 3rd 2010, a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that included Mrs. Marbella Rodregez, Education Development Officer, Mr. Daniel Kate, Deputy Director of the Finance Department, and Mrs. Katherine Shwartis, from the Audit Department, as well as guests from Save The Children, Mr. Alex Shine, the Director of the Foundation in Palestine, Mr. Othman Abu Hijleh, Director of Technical Education and , Mrs. Elis Palmila, Liaison Officer and from Merci Corps, Mr. Mahmoud Abu Rmeleh visited Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology.

The delegation was received by Mr. Naser Aloul, Secretary General at Hijjawi, and Dr. Ghassan Hilo, Dean of the College, in addition to a number of professors and instructors.

During the meeting discussion, covered the completed projects, networking with the private sector and the future plans.



After the meeting, the delegation visited the different laboratories and workshops at the College; they viewed on the educational and training process, and various facilities in the College.

The delegation expressed its admiration by the level of development the College has reached and emphasized on their willingness to continue cooperation with the college, through Save the Children & Mercy Corps Agencies as they are the executing agencies to support TEVT in Palestine with Hijjawi College.


5- Starting the Second Stage of the Training Project at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology

On October 31st 2010, the second stage of the work force technical competency development project which is being financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development started at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology in Nablus.

The second stage of the project consists of 36 specialized training courses that focus on developing technical and technological competencies of both the work forces in the local Palestinian market and fresh graduates for the purpose of developing work quality and facilitate involvement in the work field.

The first stage of this project consisted of 45 training courses of 21 different titles, with around 2500 training hours. During that stage also, scholarships were given to 38 students.

The number of beneficiaries in the first stage exceeded 600 while the second stage is expected to include more than 1000 participants who will take part in more than 100 training courses.

Students who participated in the training have acquired new skills and improved their competences which they described as vital to their future career.

Dr. Ghassan Hilo, Dean of Hijjawi College, mentioned that the College started to implement the different activities of the project and that the various training courses are now going as planned to ensure quality results.



6- The Prime Mister Advisor for Arabic and Islamic Funds, Dr. Jawad Al Naji Visit Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology – Nablus

On November 4th , 2010, The Prime Mister Advisor for Arabic and Islamic Funds, Dr. Jawad Al Naji and the Technical Advisor at the Arabic Fund Affairs Office, in the Ministry, visited Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology in Nablus. Mr. Naser Aloul, the Secretary General, Dr. Ghassan Al Hilo, Dean of the College, and some of the College staff received the guests.

At the outset of the visit, Mr. Aloul presented the starting of the College, its development as well as the current projects in addition to the future projects, and highlighting the projects "Enhance Technical Skills of Employees in the Labor Market", funded by Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development .

Dr. Naji ensured that the Palestinian Government is supported for TVET, stressed the importance of studying the market needs and to cooperate with the private sectors to guarantee careers for the recent graduated of the TVET, to cover the needs of the market of Technicians.

After the meeting Dr. Naji and Mr. Abu Yassien visited the different laboratories and workshops at the College, and the operation process at the training evening courses, and they met some of the College trainers.

Dr. Naji expressed his satisfaction of the high technical level of the College, hoping to keep serving youth & the Technical market sector.



7- Launching Training Courses at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology in Cooperation with Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development

The Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology at An- Najah National University launched their project "Enhance Technical Skills of Employees in the Labor Market", is technical specialized training courses sponsored by AFECD in Kuwait.

With distinguished partnership between the Hijjawi College and AFECD, the project duration will be around 3 years, and it aims to enhance the TVET for the workforce through presenting technical specialized training courses, for free, that will give the trainee skills to develop their careers in the workplace, in Palestine as a whole and especially in the North.

Investigating the Palestinian market has been discussed through workshops between the College and the stakeholders who highlighted the needs of the market, and the target groups.

The target sectors will be engineering associations, vocational associations, municipalities, chambers, industry sector, private companies and individuals who want to develop their professional skills.

Currently 21 technical specialized training courses are being presented as modern automotive technology, air conditioning, cooling and heating, industrial automation, electronics and advanced computer science and software engineering design, welding, metal forming and other specialized courses.

The project focuses on three main categories, a workforce in the local labor market, recent graduates and students from the category between 17-22 years old school-drop out, who want to join the one year course program (vocational training) in the College.

The training courses for the 1st and 2nd category will be held at evenings and weekends, assisting the trainee to balance between their jobs & Training.

The Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development in Kuwait supported a lot of development projects in Palestine and has contributed actively in the establishment of the College.


8- Instructors from Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology Obtain the CISCO Security Training Certificate

July 28th 2010. Two certified CISCO instructors from Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology, Engineer Muhammad Zahlan and Engineer Munif Qaffaf, completed training at the Cisco Regional Academy training center at the Lebanese American University in Lebanon, to become certified instructor in Cisco security. They were granted a certificate on CCNA Security Trainer after their participation in an intensive training course and after undergoing an international test.

The training course included training on a number of new skills in computer network systems' security, internationally recognized security laws, protection against hacking, establishment of connections between different local networks via the internet (VPN Security), designing firewalls for Cisco systems, building networks' control and administration systems, SSDC systems, VLAN Security and others. Such skills are greatly demanded in Palestine since there are few experts who possess such advanced skills.

Mr. Naser Aloul, Secretary-General at Hijjawi College, mentioned that such skills that the instructors have acquired during the course will enable them to provide trainees dealing with computer networking with outstanding network security skills and will substantially improve security measures among users of Cisco systems in Palestine. He also emphasized that the College's policy has always focused on coping with the latest developments in the field of technology through training experts, sharpening their skills and updating their experience.

The Cisco Regional Academy was established in 2009 and became part of Hijjawi College. Such a facility provides trainees with more experience and extended knowledge regarding Cisco systems. The new skills that the two instructors have acquired will enable them to transfer this knowledge to a wide population of students and other trainees and trainer of other CISCO local academies.



9- Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology Celebrates the Commencement of Detainee's in Vocational Diploma

On July 3rd 2010, the Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology celebrated the graduation of former detainee's youth, in cooperation with the Ministry of Detainee's Affairs.

The trainees studied for 9 months of vocational training in this diploma program, They were provided with outstanding technical skills responding to the market demand, assisting them to find suitable employment and enable them to start a life long career.

Prisoners scarify a lot for Palestine and are vital to the Palestinian steadfast, they are resisting the Israeli occupation, and they have been deprived form all rights especially the studying chances.

Serving this group of Palestinian youth is one of the most important Hijjawi College's goals. To open the doors for them, to become productive to participate in building Palestine.



10- The Director of the German Development Service (DED) Visits Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology

On July 4th 2010, a delegation from the German Development Service (DED) that included Dr. Jürgen Wilhelm, Director General of the DED, Mr. Ivica Zemin, a German expert in the field of alternative energy, and Mrs. Gabriel Schmidt, from the Private Sector Development at DED visited Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology.



The delegation was received by Mr. Naser Aloul, Secretary General at Hijjawi, and Dr. Ghassan Hilo, Dean of the College, in addition to a number of professors and instructors. The visit included a bilateral meeting in which both sides discussed the ties of cooperation between Hijjawi College and the DED.

In the meeting, Mr. Aloul stressed the importance of maintaining cooperation between Germany and Palestine with respect to the development of vocational training and education in Palestine. He also expressed the College's desire to hire more experts from Germany to handle other fields, especially in the field of renewable energy which has become increasingly important.



Dr. Wilhelm, in turn, mentioned that Germany is deeply concerned with strengthening cooperation with the different Palestinian institutions and added that the level of development that the College has reached encourages German experts to continue supporting this institution.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the different laboratories and workshops at the College, especially the Automobile Technology Department which witnesses extensive work on a project to produce cars that use alternative energy.

The DED supports the College with a first-of-its-kind lab that is specially built to design cars that work on alternative energy such as the solar power and hydrogen. Through this lab, students will be able to obtain more experience in the field of alternative energy and sharpen their skills in dealing with hybrid vehicles.


11- The German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Prime Minister Dr. Salam Fayyad Visit Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology.

On June 19th 2010, Prime Minister, Dr. Salam Fayyad and Mr. Dirk Niebel, German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development visited Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology along with the Palestinian Minister of Planning, Dr. Ali Jarbawi and a number of the Ministry's members.

The visit also included a number of members of the Federal Parliament of Germany, representatives of several German civil organizations, directors of German institutions that work in Palestine and representatives of the private sector in Germany.


Dr. Farouq Zuaiter, Head of the Board of Directors at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology received the delegation. Prof. Rami Hamdallah, An-Najah University President, Mr. Naser Aloul, Secretary-General at Hijjawi College, as well as Dr. Ghassan Hilo, Dean of the College also attended the meeting.

Mr. Aloul then delivered a presentation about the College's development and the German-Palestinian cooperation in the field of Technical and Vocational Educational and Training and highlighted the possible future plans that could be designed in order to keep this institution in the lead with respect to professional and technical education in the country.



Mr. Niebel, on his part, emphasized that the German Government is deeply concerned with supporting vocational and technical education and training in Palestine which he considered as vital element in any successful economy. He also mentioned that Germany will provide the College with what it needs in order to maintain quality training and education, thus providing the society with qualified technicians and experts in the different fields of industry and technology.

Finally, the delegation visited the different parts of the College such as the workshops and the laboratories and met with a number of staff and students. The delegation expressed its admiration by the level of development the College has reached and emphasized the German Government's willingness to continue supporting this college.


12- Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology Celebrates their 8th Commencement.

On June 5th 2010, the Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology celebrated the 8th graduation ceremony that was held at the college. Dr. Farouq Zuaiter, Chairman of The Board of Directors of the College, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, The President of An-Najah National University, Mr. Naser Aloul, The Secretary General of Hijjawi College of Technology, Dr. Ghasan Al Hilo, The Dean of Hijjawi College of Technology, as well as number of representatives of several official and public institutions, members of the Board of Trustees and graduates and their families.



In the ceremony, Dr. Zuaiter welcomed the guests and congratulated the students on their graduation. He also said that the Hijjawi College has been established to provide the society with professional technicians and experts in the different fields of industry and equip them with professional skills to be able to join the different facilities in the economical and industrial fields. Since technology has been progressing with a rapid pace, the college realized the need for individuals who have special qualifications that would enable the country to cope with the latest advancements in the field of technology.



In his speech Dr. Zuaiter announced a new project with the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development for upgrading of the technical skills of the existing workforce in the market, aiming at improving the employable skills of the human capital, he also announced another project with German Agency for Technical Corporation (GTZ) and the Nablus Local Employment & Training Council to implement Community Based Training and Creation of Small Enterprises project (CBTCSE). Both projects implementation will start during the month of June.2010.

The 8th graduation ceremony graduated 140 technicians, in 10 technical fields.




13- The Third National Technical & Vocational Education & Training Conference in Palestine at The Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology - Nablus .

Under the Patronage of his Excellency, Mahmoud Abbas, President of Palestine, The Third National Technical & Vocational Education & Training Conference was held at the Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology in Nablus.

The Conference opening was attended by HE Dr. Sabri Saidam; The Representative of HE President of Palestine, Dr. Ahmad Mjdalani; Minister of Labor, Mrs. Lamis Al Alami; Minister of Education & Higher Education, Mr. Jebreen Al Bakri; Nablus Governor, Prof. Rami Hamdallah; An-Najah National University President, Mr. Naser Aloul; the College Secretary General, as well as members of the PLO Executive Committee, members of the Palestinian Legislative Council and officials from the government who are responsible for TVET, in addition to representatives from the Private Sector, various NGO's, GTZ, USAID, Welfare Association and Save the Children, the VET league and many of the TVET training providers.

Four sessions were concluded; The Governmental session, The Private Sector, The Donors and The Training Providers, focusing on the Partnership with the Private Sector in Order to Enhance Enrollment in TVET in Palestine through discussion panels.

The conference induced several recommendations, among them;

  • Forming a committee to develop an operational effective plan of activities to be implemented in Palestine during the next 12 months aiming at enhancing the students' enrolment in the TVET Sector. The committee includes the General Manager of TVET – Ministry of Education & Higher Education, Eng. Ziad Jwieles, General Manager of TVET – Ministry of Labor, Eng. Mahmoud Nojoum, Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology, and Palestine Polytechnic & the VET League.


  • Adoption of an Annual National Week for TVET that includes activities to contribute in promoting the TVET sector to the public and to the society.












14- The Third National Technical & Vocational Education & Training Conference in Palestine - Nablus. .

Under the Patronage of His Excellency, President Mahmoud Abbas, the Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education & Higher Education, and the Ministry of Labor in addition to the Private Sector Institutions is organizing The Third National TVET Conference in Palestine on Tuesday April 27th. 2010, for one full day, in the grand hall of Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology-Nablus.

The conference will be sponsored by GTZ, PALTEL, Palestinian Investment Fund and British Council.

The conference title and theme will be "Partnership with the Private Sector in Order to Enhance Enrollment in TVET in Palestine" Specialists, Experts, Institutions, Ministries, Associations, Donors, Trainers and Students are gathering in this conference aiming at improving the student's enrollment in TVET in Palestine, through discussion panels, to agree on unified action plan for all stakeholders.





15- Celebrating the Inauguration of the New Building Expansion for the Hijjawi College for Engineering Technology – Jordan .

Under the Patronage of his Excellency, Mr. Zaid Al Rifai, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yarmouk University, The New Building Expansion for the Hijjawi College for Engineering Technology was officially opened at Yarmouk University in Jordan.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Ayman Hijjawi; Chairman of the Scientific Foundation of Hisham Hijjawi, Mr. Jaffar Hijjawi, Vice Chairman of the Foundation and Mrs. Reem Hijjawi, board member of the Foundation.

The New Building Expansion for the Hijjawi College for Engineering Technology is 7500 sqm, it is a new addition to the existing one, and contains laboratories, teaching halls, multi purpose hall, offices, a cafeteria and many other related facilities in addition to accommodating part of the center of excellence for the entrepreneurship, the cost of the new building expansion reached 2.5 million Jordanian Dinars.

Mr.Hijjawi announced during his speech that the college will start offering technology specialist programs as of September 2010 in order to provide the economy with qualified skilled technicians and also announced that the building expansion was necessary to accommodate for continuous growth among students. Also the ceremony included distribution of trophies.












16- The Award Announcement Ceremony.

Under the Patronage of his Excellency, the Prime Minster, Mr. Sameer Al Refai, the Hisham Hijjawi Award for Applied Sciences Ceremony for the year 2009, will be held at University of Jordan on Tuesday, 22nd of Dec. at 5:00 pm. The ceremony will include announcement of the results & distribution of the awards. The steering committee is working together with the evaluation committees to finalize the evaluation process, to identify the winning research .


17- The New Building for the Hijjawi Collage for Engineer Technology will be ready in six weeks.

Construction works are being finalized at the Hijjawi Collage for Engineering Technology new building at Yarmouk University in Irbid and the building is expected to be ready at the end of January 2010, on time to be utilized for the second semester that will commence on the 7th of Febrauary2010. The building of 7000 sqm is a new addition to the existing one, and contains laborites, teaching halls, multi purpose hall, offices, a cafeteria and many other related facilities in addition to accommodating part of the center of excellence for the entrepreneurship.




18- Celebrate the inauguration of the Cisco Regional Academy – Nablus.

Under the Patronage of his Excellency, Mahmood Abbas, President of Palestine, and as part of the USAID funded Technical and Vocational Education and Training Program, executed by Save the Children and MercyCorps Foundation, the Cisco Regional Academy was officially opened at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology of An-Najah National University in Nablus.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Sabri Saidam, President Advisor for Communication, Information Technology and Vocational Training, Mr. Jerry Farrell of Save the Children Foundation, Deputy Mission Director of USAID Ms. Sherry Carlin, Vice President for Academic Affairs Prof. Maher Natsheh, Secretary General of Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology Mr. Naser Aloul.

CISCO Regional Academy aims at enhancing the skills of Palestinian youth, elevate vocational education and training in the Palestinian students communities, and to establish coordination and cooperation between vocational and technical training institutions and private sectors. The establishment of CISCO academy in Palestine will help in the growth of the Palestinian economy through the process of training Palestinian staff in this area.
